Google to train 400000 nigerians by 2017

Google said it was supporting its partner, Livity Africa, to run two training programmes: ‘Digify Bytes’ to give digital skills to young people looking to develop a digital career; and ‘Digify Pro’, a three-month immersion programme for digital specialists. you can read more about the digify bytes programe

These programmes have already been launched in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, and will be scaled to reach more people in the next 12 months.
A group of 65 volunteer Googlers from around the world is helping the Livity team with content development, ‘training the trainers’ and, in some cases, delivering the training sessions
Google said it had also introduced digifyafrica.com – an online-learning portal that would house a range of digital skills courses, available to anyone in Africa – free.
“The courses are designed to be as light as possible so they don’t eat up valuable data. There are nine training courses already available and Google aims to have 50 available by July,” the company said.
In announcing the portal, which was made in Lagos, Nairobi and Johannesburg, the Country Manager, Google Nigeria, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, said, “The Internet is at the heart of economic growth and the Digital Skills Programme is aimed at helping more Africans play a part in the digital economy. Everyone can succeed online, start a new business, grow their existing one, or share their passion.”
She said, “This initiative will help us illustrate that the Internet creates an opportunity, and that Google can help grow the digital skills that people need to succeed online.
We want to work towards an Africa where millions of youth have the skills to build their future and change the lives of those around them.”
