Mercy wins...nigerian idol!

A journey of a million miles they say begins with a step. There’s no doubt that the journey on this season of Nigerian Idol has kept everyone on the edge of their seats; from the auditions, to the Top 100, Top 30, Top 12 and down to the grand finale, there has been no dull moment. It was filled with a mix of emotions, high and low moments and not to forget the hilarious ones too as we went in search for the next Nigerian Idol.
It’s certain there would have been no show if you the fans and viewers were not part of this incredible journey of igniting one of the Nigerian idol hopefuls’ dreams. The much awaited and most anticipated moment of this show – the announcement of the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 2, could not have come any sooner as it was down to the 2 most outstanding finalists, Joe Blue and Mercy, who your votes saved on every eviction show, except the eviction show when Joe Blue was evicted but was given a second chance thanks to the “Wild Card” vote from the judges. Both finalists showed Nigeria and viewers outside Nigeria who followed the show online how hard they’ve worked and how passionate they are about igniting their dreams. With each contestant having huge fan bases home and away, it was a keenly contested finale as no one knew who would emerge as the next Nigerian Idol.
The show opened with a speech from the CEO of Optima Media Group, Mr. Rotimi Pedro and also Etisalat’s CEO, Steve Evans. This season’s finale would be one that would be talked about for a very long time because of the lineup of stars who graced the stage. Wizkid and MI, two of Nigeria’s most successful music artistes were present to give the audience a good show as the waited for the host Ill Rymz and Tiwa Savage to make the grand announcement. Let’s not forget our judges, the diva Yinka Davies, Jeffery Daniels the cool one and Are Father himself Charly Boy, whose presence on the show played a vital role in shaping and igniting the dreams of the two finalists. They gave their last words of advice and encouragement to both contestants and urged them to work hard as they go into the real world of music.
For the last time on the Nigerian Idol stage, Joe Blue and Mercy performed first a duet and then individual performances that would linger in people’s minds.
Time for the moment everyone waited six months for… the announcement of the winner of Nigerian idol Season 2. Ill Rymz called on the Steve Evans, Etisalat’s CEO, and Hakeem Belo-Osagie, Chairman of Etisalat Nigeria to reveal whose name was on the envelope brought in my Lola from Alexander Forbes. Without any time to waste, the chairman called out Mercy’s name as the winner chosen by Nigeria! In addition to the Nigerian Idol title, Mercy walked away with a brand new SUV, 7.5million naira, a recording contract and other prizes from sponsors. Joe Blue the 1st runner-up didn’t go home empty handed, he walked away with 1.5million naira and other prizes from sponsors, so did Stephen Onochie – 2nd runner-up who was given a cash prize of 1million naira with consolation prizes for the other finalists.
It truly was a rollercoaster ride this season! We say a big thank you for the followership and support for the show. To the crew members and everyone who worked on thi Nigerian idol project, Cheers to Team Work! Thank you Nigeria…Watch out for Season 3.
